    Samsung Pay in Sberbank. Samsung Pay: which devices are supported and how to use it. Which banks support Samsung Pay Which banks support Samsung Pay

    We tell, we explain on fingers.

    Samsung Pay was launched in Russia at the end of September. And today I started supporting Visa cards. The competitor has finally matured, now the battle will be life and death.

    We decided to find out if there is a difference between Samsung Pay and Samsung Pay. What devices are supported? And what goodies you can get for free using Samsung Pay in Russia.

    Consider this post FAQ via Samsung Pay. Go. What are the differences?

    1. Works on the best Samsung smartphones that are worth it

    Today, the payment service of the South Korean company is supported by the following devices:

    • Samsung Galaxy S7
    • Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
    • Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016)
    • Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016)
    • Samsung Galaxy Note5
    • Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (NFC only)
    • Samsung Galaxy S6 (NFC only)
    • Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

    For comparison:
    The Apple payment system is supported by 8 gadgets: iPhone 6| 6 Plus, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, iPhone 7| 7 Plus, Apple Watch (if you have any Apple smartphone starting with iPhone 5) and iPhone SE. In other words, the total number of compatible devices is comparable to the list of the American company.

    2. Your card is already supported

    Today, the Samsung Pay service is available for MasterCard and Visa cards. The following banks became partners:

    – MasterCard cards:

    • Alfa Bank
    • Bank opening"
    • Russian Standard Bank
    • Bank "Saint-Petersburg"
    • BIN-Bank
    • VTB 24
    • MTS-Bank
    • Raiffeisenbank
    • Rocketbank
    • Sberbank
    • Tinkoff Bank
    • Dot
    • Yandex money

    – Visa cards:

    • Alfa Bank
    • MTS-Bank
    • Raiffeisenbank

    For comparison:
    After its launch in Russia, Apple Pay worked exclusively for the first month only with MasterCard cards from Sberbank. Later, more people joined the system. Since mid-November, support for Visa cards from two banks has appeared: Alfa-Bank and Tinkoff. .

    3. You can pay EVERYWHERE, Apple Pay can’t do that

    The main feature of Samsung Pay is that the system works not only with terminals that support contactless payment (NFC technology).

    Samsung uses its own technology – MST(from the English Magnetic Secure Transmission - magnetic secure transmission), allowing you to pay using a smartphone at almost any terminal that accepts bank cards.

    The system can imitate the magnetic stripe of a card! Samsung smartphones that support MST technology create a magnetic field similar to the signal from the magnetic stripe of a bank card. The range of action is about 7–8 centimeters.

    It was for this technology that Samsung acquired the company LoopPay, whose engineers implemented the idea of MST.

    For comparison:
    Where Nikita was in his experiment with trying to pay for groceries using an iPhone #pshelvonmajor, Samsung Pay would do everything right. The payment system of the South Korean company gives the owner a sense of peace of mind; there is no need to peer at the payment terminal to see if there are “PayPass” and “PayWave” icons there. Samsung Pay works wherever bank cards are accepted.

    MST is not supported by Samsung S6 edge| S6. However, this a very serious advantage over Apple Pay.

    4. Payment is just as secure, if not safer.

    The purchase is confirmed using a fingerprint. In other words, even if a smartphone is stolen, attackers will not be able to confirm payment without the fingerprint of the real owner of the device.

    In addition, a three-level data protection system is used for security.

    Firstly, "tokenization". Its essence is to replace the client’s real data (card number) with virtual ones. When activating a card for Samsung Pay, the real card number is replaced with a special digital random code. That is, when paying, personal information is not used, which means it remains protected.

    Secondly, the built-in security system is called Samsung KNOX. Its purpose is to check the smartphone’s firmware before registering a new bank card and when using a payment service. If viruses are detected or Samsung firmware is modified, KNOX may block Samsung Pay.

    If Root is detected on a smartphone, the payment system on the smartphone is completely blocked. Even resetting to original settings won't help. Harsh, but logical.

    In addition, Samsung KNOX ensures that Samsung Pay data is protected regardless of the smartphone's operating system.

    5. Set up is just as easy and supports everything

    Samsung Pay settings are practically no different from those in the Apple product. You can enter card data manually or take a photo. Confirmation of a new card in the system occurs via SMS notification.

    We opened the application, selected a card, and were identified using a fingerprint scanner. If necessary, enter the PIN code of the plastic card at the terminal. Profit!

    The Samsung Pay service itself is provided at no additional cost.

    6. And here, too, there are interesting offers for users

    Using Samsung Pay you can take part in pleasant bonus promotions.

    For example, in Moscow “Shokoladnitsa” there is a 50% discount on hot drinks, and “Kinokhod” offers free coupons for cinemas. Get cashback on your VTB24 card. In Samsung stores, using a branded payment service when paying, you can get a discount on branded accessories (15% on Gear Fit2, 15% on Gear VR, 30% on Level On Pro).

    Eventually. Samsung Pay is more convenient than Apple Pay, period

    Only with Samsung Pay can you pay for purchases EVERYWHERE in Russia. You don't need to look for contactless payment terminals. There is no need to arrange weekly tests, as Nikita did, and limit yourself in possibilities. The only exceptions are terminals that require inserting a card and do not support NFC, and an external magnetic stripe card reader is also not available.

    Just bring the phone to the magnetic reader - and you're done. It couldn't be simpler. This is what payment from a smartphone should look like in 2016.

    It's a shame Apple can't do that. But Samsung are handsome, and that’s the point. Learn, there in Cupertino!

    Samsung Pay for Android is a free and convenient wallet application created by the company of the same name for making payments using a mobile phone or other supported gadget with one touch.

    You can download Samsung Pay for Android as an APK file for Samsung phones and is recommended for users who want to pay quickly and with one touch from a smartphone or tablet.

    It is used here in the same way as ordinary payment plastic cards, with almost any trading terminals of the corresponding payment system - magnetic, chip contact or near-field communication.

    Samsung Pay allows you to use your gadget as a safer, faster and easier process for paying for goods and services. All confidential data passed through the device is replaced with unique tokens. In addition, making payments using the application does not require an Internet connection; the device interacts with the terminal using NFC and MST contactless technologies.

    Benefits of the service:

    • encryption of data with spontaneously generated digital tokens;
    • ease of launch and operation in one movement and click;
    • confirmation of each payment with biometric authentication or password protection;
    • possibility of universal use.

    The service is launched by simply moving your finger from bottom to top across the gadget screen or by clicking on the Samsung Pay icon. The application can support up to 10 different bank cards.

    Changing from one to another is done by moving across the screen from left to right or vice versa during the transaction.

    Adding a card to the service:

    1. Make sure that the selected banking system supports the Samsung Pay service.
    2. Install the application and register using your current Samsung account (e-mail).
    3. We choose the most suitable identification method: fingerprint scanning or PIN code.
    4. Add a bank card by taking a photo with a camera or entering the data manually.
    5. We check the boxes and agree to the terms of service provided by Samsung Pay and the bank.
    6. We go through authorization at the bank using SMS, the service is ready to use.

    To make a payment, you just need to bring the device with the service running to the terminal. It is worth keeping in mind that Samsung Pay does not support terminals that require the physical presence of the card inside. For example, a card reader in an ATM, where you need to insert a card into the device to complete a transaction. Also, today there is no possibility to pay for a purchase on the Internet.

    There are no fees for using the application.

    Rates apply to payments made with regular bank cards. If it is necessary to return funds written off using the service, it occurs in the same way as with regular purchases - in accordance with the law and the rules of the store.

    It is possible to download Samsung Pay for Android for free using the APK file from the link below and is necessary for those users who want to make any purchases through their smartphone or tablet.

    Today we will answer a very common question about which devices in Russia work with Samsung Pay, a popular contactless payment service that recently became available to clients of domestic banks.

    The material was updated on February 20: information on new models was added, technical corrections were made to the data.

    Based on the level of support for Samsung Pay, devices (primarily smartphones) can be divided into three categories: fully supporting, partially supporting (not all features are available) and potentially compatible (some of which can still run it).

    Let's start with the fact that officially only gadgets that were officially imported and purchased in local stores work with Samsung Pay in Russia. For example, if you try to connect a Galaxy S7 purchased in the UK using a Russian bank card, you will not succeed (but you can bypass this protection if you wish).

    An important point: bypassing the protection is possible only within one regional modification by flashing a ROM file for your country onto the smartphone using the special Odin service software. For example, a Galaxy S7 SM-G930F purchased in Europe can be subjected to such modification, but the “Chinese” SM-G9300 cannot.

    Also keep in mind that Samsung Pay does not work on devices where:

    • The root superuser mode is activated;
    • The KNOX counter has been reset;
    • Modified or third-party firmware is installed.

    Devices fully compatible with Samsung Pay in Russia

    The smartphones presented below fully support working with the contactless payment service of the Korean company, including modern PayPass/PayWire terminals via NFC and outdated ones using magnetic tape emulation using MST technology.

    Devices partially compatible with Samsung Pay in Russia

    On November 8, 2016, Samsung announced that its payment service supports some smartphones that do not have an MST adapter and can only work with modern payment terminals via NFC:

    • Samsung Galaxy S6
    • Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

    Note. American and some other regional variants of the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge include an MST adapter, but Samsung does not connect them to its service in Russia.

    Potentially Compatible Devices

    The gadgets presented below do not yet have official support from Samsung Pay in Russia, but they work in other countries. This also includes the smartphones listed above purchased in other countries.

    Widget from SocialMart

    Unfortunately, their use with cards from banks in Russia and other CIS countries is not possible due to the need to modify the firmware and disguise them as other models. This triggers the KNOX counter, which automatically makes it impossible to use Samsung Pay (although there are successful precedents).

    • Samsung Gear S2 (Classic and Sport) - NFC only
    • (Classic and Frontier) - NFC and MST
    • Samsung Gear Sport - NFC only
    • Samsung Galaxy Watch - NFC only

    A well-known electronics manufacturer has expanded its services and recently launched a service that makes payments easier. The domestic card Mir of Sberbank and Samsung pay will provide the opportunity to carry out transactions without the participation of plastic and save on transfers in self-service devices.

    What is Samsung Pay?

    Contactless technology has made plastic safer and more reliable. The microchip and the sent radio signal help to make a payment with one touch and leave no chance for fraudsters to read it.

    There is no need to carry the card with you all the time. Instead, a smartphone with innovative technology is used. Initially there was cooperation with the MasterCard system, later Visa joined.

    What cards does it work with?

    The development of payment systems has led to the introduction of the Samsung Pay service in our country. You can easily connect debit cards from Visa and MasterCard, including:

    • instant release of Momentum and Electron;
    • youth standard and with individual design;
    • classical category;
    • premium Gold, Platinum, Infinitive, Signature;
    • co-branded varieties Aeroflot and Podari Zhizn;
    • exclusive Black Edition and Elite.

    Participation in the lending program will allow you to use credit cards. Momentum, classic, premium and co-branding cards are included.

    How to add a Sberbank World card to Samsung Pay?

    Convenient functionality made it possible to connect the Russian World. This happens in several steps. Sberbank supports the system and promotes the distribution of plastic with characteristic symbols.

    Connection nuances

    The procedure is well established and does not cause any difficulties. The holder remains to adhere to a certain algorithm.

    1. The required application is downloaded from the official Samsung store. Some smartphones have a corresponding icon in the menu.
    2. After opening the application, an account is created. An email account is used and the terms and conditions of the program are familiarized with.
    3. It is necessary to clarify the verification method; choose between a PIN code or a fingerprint. The first option will lead to the selection of a reliable combination.
    4. Plastic is added and the required information is entered.
    5. The terms and conditions of the two partners are accepted. Enter the received code from the SMS message for registration.
    6. Sign with a stylus or use your own fingerprint.

    Step-by-step user instructions

    Samsung Pay should replace plastic completely. To make a payment, the user performs sequential actions.

    1. The application will start by clicking on the icon or moving from bottom to top without lifting your finger.
    2. All cards linked to the service will appear on the screen that opens. One plastic card is selected, and authorization occurs using the selected method.
    3. All that remains is to bring the smartphone to the terminal window. When paying at the cash register, they sometimes indicate the card password or put a signature.
    4. The funds are debited immediately, a printed receipt will confirm the payment.

    The process is expedited. Payment won’t even take a minute; scammers simply won’t be able to use the reading circuits. Theft will not work without knowing the password or fingerprint.

    How much does it cost to use?

    The advantage of using the service is not only simplicity. Transactions do not involve any additional fees and are completely free.

    Where can I pay with Samsung Pay?

    Samsung Pay is becoming a real replacement for your traditional card. It is becoming convenient to pay at DOS terminals installed in supermarkets and restaurants, gas stations and cafes. It is enough to bring your smartphone to the cash register, and it will be read and written off automatically.

    Do you need an internet connection?

    Technologies eliminate the need for Wi-Fi connections and access to the network. You don't have to spend money on mobile Internet traffic.

    What is Samsung pay and how does it work?

    Samsung Pay is a mobile payment system that is the main competitor to Apple Pay. Your Samsung smartphone can completely replace a bank card if it supports Samsung Pay technology. Experts predict that this technology has a great future, because you don’t need to look for special terminals to pay with your phone. You can pay wherever contactless or magnetic stripe cards are accepted.

    How Samsung Pay works

    Modern Samsung smartphones allow you to pay for purchases in the same way as you pay with a regular bank card. To do this, you need to add your bank card to the Samsung Pay service on your smartphone. After this, you will be able to pay with your smartphone in the same way as with a contactless bank card. To pay you need:

    • Bring your smartphone to the terminal;
    • Place your finger on the fingerprint scanner on your phone;
    • Wait for the operation to complete;

    You do not need to ask the seller for a special terminal or notify the seller that you will pay by phone. If the terminal supports contactless payments or magnetic tape, then feel free to bring your phone to pay. No preparatory steps are required. To confirm a payment, you can use not only a fingerprint, but also a preset PIN code. Using a fingerprint is much faster, since it does not require any additional actions from you other than having your finger on the fingerprint scanner.

    Practice has shown that in Russia they are not yet accustomed to this payment method, so be prepared for a strange reaction from sellers. And if you want to take a closer look at the technology and learn how it works, we recommend the following video:

    What phones are supported

    Thanks to Samsung Pay, you can pay for purchases in the store at any terminal that supports contactless cards or cards with a magnetic stripe. To do this, you need to be the owner of one of the modern Samsung phones:

    • Galaxy A5 (2016)/A7(2016);
    • Galaxy S6/S6 edge/S6 edge+;
    • Galaxy S7/S7 edge;
    • Galaxy Note5;

    Smartphones of the Samsung Galaxy S6 line support payment only using NFC technology. This means that they can only be used to pay at contactless terminals. The rest of the smartphones on the list also allow you to pay at older terminals that accept cards with a magnetic stripe.

    It is expected that all Samsung flagship phones released since December 2016 will support the mobile payment service. It is likely that in 2017-2018 we will see this service on phones in the mid-price segment. It is unlikely to appear on the cheapest devices. But most experts are confident that Samsung Pay will confidently grow and develop.

    What cards are supported?

    To use the service, you need to add your card; you will find instructions below. Only certain bank cards are supported:

    Please note that only MasterCard payment system cards are supported. It is expected that Visa cards will also be connected to the system in 2017. You can connect up to 10 different bank cards to one smartphone. One card can be connected to the number of devices allowed by the rules of your bank. For example, at Sberbank one card can be linked to only one device.

    The service does not allow you to withdraw money from an ATM. But it allows you to cash out in Europe at the checkout if the store states that it can make change from bank cards. This doesn’t happen often, but it does happen, and it allows you to cash out money from a card on your phone. Remember that your phone is a complete analogue of your card.

    How to add a card

    If your smartphone supports this technology, then you have a standard application - Samsung Pay. You need to go to this application to add a card. In the lower right corner, find the “Launch” button and click on it:

    You need to follow the instructions of the application, it is easy as they are in Russian. Set up a fingerprint or password. This is necessary to confirm transactions when paying by phone.

    There are some differences when you add the first card and subsequent ones. If the card is the first, then you will have a card symbol on your screen. And if the card is not the first, then there will be an “Add” button. Depending on your situation, choose the right button.

    The second way is to enter the data manually. Fill out all the fields that the application asks for.

    After entering your card details (in any way), you need to read and accept the agreement with the Samsung Pay service. Without this, you will not be able to complete adding the card.

    Next will be a card check. It happens via SMS code. It will come to the phone number that was indicated at the bank when you received the card. Wait for the code and enter it in the application. This procedure is the same for all cards, but only works with those banks that support this service.

    The last step is your signature. Sign with your finger on the screen. Some sellers may ask you to verify your signature. This is necessary if you sign on a check. If you have a regular card, then you show the signature on the card. In the case of a mobile payment system, you show the signature on the screen of your phone.

    Entering your signature is the final step. After this, you will see a message that your card has been added successfully. Then you can use your phone to pay.

    If you still have questions about how to add a card, we recommend the following video:

    Advantages

    You don't need to take your card with you. As a rule, people always carry their phone with them. And if the card is in your phone, then you don’t need to take it. But this is only a visible advantage; there are several equally significant, but not so obvious.

    Payments via phone are safer. Nobody sees your card. When paying, the terminal receives encrypted card data, so it cannot be stolen. The card cannot be physically stolen; you simply do not have it. Payments are confirmed using your fingerprint, and your fingerprint is unique.

    Some experts note that data on the phone can be stolen by hackers. Samsung developers have made every effort to prevent this from happening. This is exactly how the KNOX service appeared. This is an antivirus built into your smartphone that monitors in real time to ensure that your card data is not stolen. The service also monitors the correct processing of transactions. But no one canceled your vigilance. Before you bring your phone to the terminal, be sure to look at the amount charged.

    Which is better Samsung Pay or Apple Pay

    Samsung beats Apple's service if we consider the capabilities of the system. The two systems are almost exactly the same, but Samsung Pay allows you to pay in more places. Apple Pay uses NFC technology, which means payment will only take place at terminals that work with contactless cards.

    The Samsung Pay service works not only with NFC technology, but also with MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technology. Thanks to this, you can pay with your phone at simple terminals that accept cards with a magnetic stripe.

    It turns out that the service from Samsung is much more universal, since you can pay with it even on outdated terminals. It may not be worth changing your phone if you already have an Apple smartphone. But if you are now faced with choosing a smartphone, then we recommend taking a closer look at Samsung smartphones, as their payment service will open up more opportunities for you.
